A truly inclusive statement would simply state that marriage is offered to all consenting adults. Period. No reference to "same" or "opposite" sexes. It would also include gender expression, not just gender identity. And it would use the much more inclusive word "sexuality"' instead of "sexual orientation." As written, this statement of "inclusion" simply reinforces the cultural fiction that sex is binary and ignores the fact that gender expression is a much more common basis for discrimination than gender identity. Finally, I don't want my participation "valued." I want the validity of my existence acknowledged and respected, whether or not I "participate." these blind spots are why I choose not to participate in Christian religious cults. Even when they try, they still exclude.
