I would say that gender reveal parties are the 'wheels' already turning. Parents project gender norms onto unborn fetuses as soon as they learn its sex, and probably have a reserve of expectations ready to deploy when they find out wat it is. Conflicts between a parent's imagined future for their child and the actualities of children is the cause of a lot of heartache...
