OK, please point me to the successful social justice movement that *hasn't* tried to make itself understood by others in order to convince them to be supportive....cuz the history of the Black civil rights movement is the exact opposite of that.

That so many replies to my comment have chosen this hill to die on ("Trans people are unrelatable! You can't understand us!") would be laughable if it weren't so sadly misguided. How's that working out right about now? *gestures at all the anti-trans legislation being passed in state legislatures*

The cultivation of *empathy* and *understanding* about minorities in the broader body politic is the key to advancing social justice and expanding civil rights. The broader public doesn't support what it doesn't understand.
