The problem with personalizing difference and reconciliation ("If only we just shared dinner!") is that it ignores the regional and global realities of Israel and Palestine. Israel is a social and military outpost of the United States. It's a client state; a tool by which American power is projected in the Middle East. To date the US. has sent $146 BILLION in aid to Israel and just committed to send another $38 BILLION solely in military aid. The main goal is to ensure the free flow of oil from the region to the West and prevent countries like Iran from acquiring enough power to threaten the global economy by strangling the flow of oil. That regional and global economic reality will not be changed by Jews and Arabs having lunch because Israel will continue to be a U.S. client state and other countries in the region will continue to not have the power to challenge it.
